Last call in Philadelphia

Today saw the Dingos travel from Washington DC up to Philadelphia.

For team cool, we started the day with a leisurely 10.30 wake up call before enjoying a hearty breakfast of le tour de france.

While the mountain man Jan Ulrich powered up the mountain, we watched the BMI-challenged Lance Armstrong claw him back and win the stage by over a minute. Give that most of the Australian team is also BMI (Body Mass Index - a judge of how big you are in relation to your height) challenged, we saw this as the road of the dingo.

Watching Lance power up the hill with pure agression was like watching our own team. The way we ate our way through our lunch, in the eyes of my team I saw the agression, the power, the determination of a winning team. It was like we were all wearing yellow jerseys in the race for Philly.

Making a quick stop in the handicapped zone so we could see the Lincoln memorial, and then trying to drive by the white house to give Dubya some helpful advice on how to make friends, we found ourselves on the incredibly beautiful, 12 lane highway, industrial scened country side way to Philly.

The game went OK, we went up early, but probably got a bit complacent with the game. Leading 8-2 at half, we managed to pull the win out with a 17-11 victory. The philly team was good with a couple of really athletic blocks and one guy who's forehand pulls were nothing short of spectacular.

It's always nice playing in front of a crowd, and this was no different. With the sideline obviously cheering on the home team, it was a good experience. I guess we won some friends though.. Eating in an Ethiopian restaurant a bit later on, three well wishes had to come in and congratulate us on what they thought was a great game. Scamby missed out on the Ethiopian, and is still pissed, but hopefully we'll kick him out of the car soon so we won't have to hear him whine.

We've now found ourselves back at the huge place of Kareem (even though I have it on good authority that it isn't his real name) and his wife's (also, probably not her real name). This is what ultimate is all about... Playing a hard game against a spirited team, going back to someone's place. And over a bunch of free beers, getting to know some really great people, and then sleep in one of their thirteen beds.

Life is tough.

As the postcard from seattle said:

"The weather is here, wish you were beautiful".

Lachie does not really capture the spirit of pfaffing and time-wasting that the Dingos are perfecting in their roed to worlds. Separating into 4 mini-vans is a good plan if you want to pfaff all over a city.

Jonny G here from Seattle - I got a message on my home phone yesterday looking for Britta's phone #. I think it was Sacha...Anyway, her number is: (206) 525-2455. Also you boys left a few things at my house...
1. A White ADIDAS Wristband (I might keep that one!)
2. A Purple, 900 ML Water Bottle by Kathmandu (Red 50% off sticker on it)
3. 2 Cables for John O's camera. 1 Black, 1 Grey. (I'm not 100% sure they're both his. Please confirm)

My phone # is 206-325-2494

I'm glad you guys are having a fun time, but sorry you're having injuries (especially yours Sacha - sounds serious). But, Dingos heal quickly when they're out on "walkabout"! they have to or else they're eaten by the others. Sleep with one eye open Sash. Take care guys and keep thrashing those second rate American teams that couldn't have held a candle to New York Ultimate 10 years ago.

Cheers,

Jonny
