New York and the Boston Tea Party

When we left you last on the Blog, we had finished our game with Pike, which culminated in a huge BBQ at Princeton Uni- again we were on the receiving end of some fantastic hospitality.

Our next port-of-call was New York. As we rolled into the city it was pelting with rain, our van had a minor crash and we were all feeling tired, and still down about Sacha and his now-diagnosed broken leg/foot.

So, we managed to convince the New York guys not to play against us, but to go out on the town with us instead. The NY guys were happy with this and we all had a great night out.

Jason, the captain of NY, got us all sorted with billets and so we got to know a few of them pretty well in a short time.

In the morning we did some sightseeing of the great city, and then it was onto Boston.

The field that was booked for us in Boston was pretty crap, so the Boston guys sorted us another field that was pretty sweet. After warming up and about to play, with a crowd on the sidelines, some cops turned up and told us the field was being re-seeded and we couldn't play. So it was off to another field. The crowd came with us so there was this huge convoy of cars heading across the city, except the local guy who was leading took a wrong turn and had to double-back- with the whole convoy following like it was a game of snake.

Anyway, the next field was probably the best i've played on and the game started after a short delay until one of our lost vans turned up.

We started hot and went up 4-0, with the disc for 5-0 but a drop in the endzone changed the momentum, and DOG bit back hard, taking half 9-8. The 2nd half saw DOG get to 14-11, so we switched D's and went with a short clam-transition and resulted in turnovers and a little run of our own. DOG held on a broke us again and had game point at 16-14. We scored, but they had the disc this time to win at 16-15. Gack got a layout block in the endzone to stop the score. We marched it down and scored to tie. Then it ws trading until 17-17. Our D got a turnover and pottsy threw a goal to Tom for 18-17.  They scored next, 18 all.  We then scored a clean offence point with gack bobbling the disc in the endzone and pete, like a good rover, catching the disc.  Dingoes win the game 19-18 and the celebrations begin.

The Boston boys put on a BBQ and two kegs in the afternoon.  Unfortunatley, the kegs were demolished in a little over an hour.  Some of the tried to kick on at a local bar but being a Sunday night it closed at 1am so the celebrations didn't go into the night.

Fantastic result Dingoes - well played, beating a class American side.

Big shame to hear about Sasha's ankle - tough stuff mate, I feel for you - get better quick.

Keep up the great play and on to more win's at Finland.
I expect you guys to beat the Poms after our last shocker at Worlds 2000. Interesting to see the Pom's seeded 2nd...

Go Dingoes!

From Chris Phair:

Great stuff - these warmup games has set you up nicely for your first game against Finland - don't loose the intensity. Big, big bummer about Sach - I cringe when I think about his and the teams disappointment. Keep up the correspondance - we are all cheering for you!!

What are your legs?
- Springs, steel springs.
What are they going to do?
- Hurl me down the track.
How fast can you run?
- As fast as a leopard.
How fast are you going to run?
-As fast as a leopard.
Then lets see you do it!

Good work maaaaates, sounds like the US tour has been awesome, with some intense play and apt partying. Hope this is a sign of things to come in Finland.

Trust you will be resting up well this week and enjoying some European sunshine. Keep the focus, despite the break from play, ready to come out firing against Finland on Saturday.

Make sure the US tour is not the highlight of the trip and make the most of all the hard work over the last 6+ months when it comes to the games that matter.

Keep the reports coming.

Colin.

Hey Oz team, great to hear about the good form. Nothing brings a team together like a close win followed by red meat and 1,000 beers. Keep the spirit as I feel something good is brewing.

Love the regular posts to give me the fix.

All the best,

Simon Gorr

PS sorry to hear about the S-man.

Great work guys, doesn't sound like you are having fun at all!

Remember defense can get more out of Roger with cheese bribes

Sorry to hear about Sacha

Well done on toughing it out through some tight games.

I get nervous just reading the game reports.

Keep being positive when it all starts going to shit and who knows what you can achieve.
